Do I have to be an English major to join?No! As long as you have completed a minimum of one college course in English language or literature, earning at least a "B" for the semester, and have completed at least 12 credit hours at Black Hawk College, you are eligible for membership.

If I become a member, do I have to attend meetings?"No, absolutely not! Membership to Sigma Kappa Delta can be whatever you want it to be. If you became a member just to have it noted on your college transcripts, so be it. You do not have to attend meetings or any club events. Your participation is solely left to your discretion!!

Do I have to have a certain GPA to be eligible?Yes, but you only need to achieve (and sustain) a minimum 3.0 grade point average in general studies and no grade lower than a "B" in any English course.

Can I lose membership in Sigma Kappa Delta?No: Once a member, always a member. Dues are for lifetime membership.

What type of writings can I submit to the Hedera Helix?In order to be considered for publishing in the SKD's national journal, the author (student) of the written work MUST be an active* member of Sigma Kappa Delta. The written work being submitted can include any of the following: critcal essays, creative non-fiction, poetry collection, fiction, or original prose (short story, flash fiction, drama, or screenplay). * Active ΣΚΔ members are defined as students currently enrolled in 100/200 level classes that are actively seeking an associate’s degree in the academic year in which the material is submitted. Alumni members are not eligible.
